Museumsdorf Kiekeberg / historic houses

I love open-air museums and historic houses! Kiekeberg close to Hamburg is small and intimate and just lovely to explore in all seasons and with kids! They have a lot of different farm animals living right on the property and in the old stables and you can roam about freely and endlessly. The crisp and clear morning added a lot of charm and mystery as it was a bit misty at first and all leaves and cobwebs sparkling with tiny drops of dew.
And we made our first round before the crowds. A lot of people started poring in by 11ish as they were holding their annual historic fair for the weekend. It was gorgeous! Three merry-go-rounds, a (small) big wheel, some little but magical things like dancing bears, soap bubbles, coconut shy, high striker,, fortune telling, a magician... and some sweets and sausages of course. What more do you need for a fair?
And to see those big eyes of the little ones everywhere! We just sat, observed and enjoyed.
